This area which we refer to as “
La Dimora nel Gesso” (loosely translated as the
home within the sulphurous rocks),
has 2 entrances , one from the Antica Via Del Borgo, an elevated walkway above mews-type dwellings which winds through little houses. This once defence boundary then became a location for brewers living there with their animals (hence its’ other name of
Via degli Asini – Donkey Way) where the gesso material exccavated from the rocks, was transported by donkey.
The other entrance is at Porta delle Dame, where by climbing the few steps which are at the beginning of the Borgo, you approach the
rocky pathways of the historical centre of the village and can continue on to the 3 hills, catching glimpses of these enchanting houses.
We are situated 150m from the above where a table service of
Italian breakfast comprising of sweet and savoury choices with yoghurt and hot and cold drinks is served in the hotel every day between 7am and 10am.
